The battle lines have been drawn and Mari, an Earth Walker and Nik, a Companion, who were once from rival clans now find themselves fighting to save each other and their people from destruction.
Thaddeus betrayed his own people, killing Nik’s father and destroying their entire clan. But he wants more. He wants the power he believes Mari has stolen from him and his people and he will do anything he must to get them back, even if it means destroying everything in his path. There is only way to stop Thaddeus, but it means a harrowing journey for Mari and Nik into the heart of darkness. But if they hope to survive the coming fight, they have no choice but to believe in each other.
**I received this book free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.**
I had not read Moon Chosen prior to reading this, so I went in not knowing what to expect. What I did not expect was such a long book. It did tend to get a bit boring especially since there was not much action aside from the beginning and end of the story. It was mostly a story about traveling from one place to another, healing, planning a move, and then more action.
I did enjoy the characters. It was interesting reading about a world in which humans and canines were connected to each other. That was pretty cool, and not something you read about everyday. Mari and Nik were both great, even though they both made some rash decisions which tended to have them in danger. The side characters were also really important, with each one contributing to the story instead of just being in the background the entire time like in most books these days.
The bad guy was pretty generic, even though he didn't start off as bad. It's hard to say more without giving anything away, but he mostly was not entirely himself.
Nik and Mari's romance was one of my favorite parts of the book. You could tell that they were both in love with each other, but it was done in such a good way because while they were always thinking about the other one, there was no sense of urgency. Their love scene was built up and not rushed at all.
There are multiple POVs present, and while it was confusing at first, I was able to figure it out pretty quickly.
Like I said, it's a longgggggg book. It's a little over 600 pages which I think could have been condensed into 400 or so. If you can handle the dragging, it's actually a decent book with an interesting storyline.
The next book will most like feature a big battle between good and evil, with everything hanging in the balance. I look forward to seeing where it will go.
